Why eye shape changes everything

The four shapes
Almond
Tapered with gently lifted corners and a visible crease — the shape most techniques are designed for. Classic wings and crease work translate directly.
Round
Tall, open, expressive, with white often visible around the iris. Outward-pulled liner and outer-third shadow elongate beautifully.
Hooded
A skin fold rests over the crease and swallows lid looks. The fixes: apply with eyes open, place colour above the fold, and seal liner with primer.
Monolid

How do I know my eye shape?
Look straight into a mirror and check two things: whether your crease is visible when your eyes are open (hidden crease = hooded, no crease at all = monolid), and whether white shows above or below your iris (yes = round, no = almond). The quiz above turns this into five guided checks.
What are hooded eyes?
Hooded eyes have a fold of skin that rests over the crease, so eyeshadow on the lid disappears when your eyes are open. They're extremely common and naturally sultry — makeup just goes slightly higher than the fold, applied with eyes open.
What is a monolid?
A monolid is a smooth eyelid without a visible crease — common in East Asian eye shapes and the canvas K-beauty eye techniques are designed around. Gradient shadow and centre-weighted liner create gorgeous depth without needing a fold.
Does eye shape really change how I should do eyeliner?
More than any other feature. The same wing that lifts almond eyes can vanish into a hooded fold or look too heavy on round eyes. Matching liner technique to your shape is the single fastest upgrade in eye makeup.
