Why face shape matters

The four shapes at a glance
Oval
Longer than wide, gently tapering jaw. The balanced canvas — nearly every style works, so choose by personality, not correction.
Round
Width and length nearly equal with soft, full cheeks. Vertical lines — long layers, high ponytails, deep side parts — add flattering length.
Heart
Wider forehead and cheekbones narrowing to a delicate chin. Jaw-level volume — bobs, waves, curtain bangs — balances the taper beautifully.
Square

How do I figure out my face shape?
Pull your hair fully back, look straight into a mirror, and trace your face's outline with a washable marker (or your finger). An egg shape is oval, a circle is round, wide-top-narrow-chin is heart, and straight sides with an angular jaw is square. The quiz above walks you through it.
What are the main face shapes?
The four most common are oval, round, heart, and square. Stylists sometimes add oblong (a longer oval) and diamond (widest at the cheekbones with a narrow forehead and chin) — but almost everyone fits one of the main four closely enough to choose styles confidently.
Which face shape suits curtain bangs?
Almost all of them — that's why they're everywhere. Curtain bangs soften a wide forehead on heart shapes, add vertical lines to round faces, and frame square jaws gently. On oval faces they're purely a style choice.
Can my face shape change?
